Best Jazz Jam in DC!

We just won Best Jazz Jam session in the Washington CityPaper 2016 Readers Poll (link here)!  And, we were also the “Staff Pick” for Best Jazz Jam session (link here)!  Hooray!

CityPaper arts desk staff writer Mike West also had some nice things to say about the jam and our new home The Brixton.  Here is the full blurb:

Drummer Will Stephens’ D.C. Jazz Jam had a fairly strong following—and pretty good music—back when he ran it out of Dahlak Eritrean Cuisine in Adams Morgan. But when Dahlak closed last March, the weekly Sunday night jam session moved to the second floor of U Street’s The Brixton—and the floodgates opened. It helps that The Brixton’s lounge-cum-bandstand is by itself about half the size of Dahlak’s entire space, and the adjacent bar and table area is larger still. But more importantly, the crowd is enthusiastic, there’s a formidable waiting list of great D.C. musicians who want to take their turn, and the music they produce is passionate and swings like hell.

Thank you to everyone who voted for us in the Reader’s Poll this year!

Also, a big shout-out to the following folks…

  • Herb Scott and the Capitol Hill Jazz Jam at Mr. Henry’s, who came in as runner-up for Best Jazz Jam Session in the Reader’s Poll;
  • Jam regular Lionel Lyles, who won Best Performance Artist and was also the staff pick for Best New Jazz Artist; and
  • Perennial CityPaper favorite Aaron Myers, who has hosted the jam more than anyone else and won Best Singer in this year’s Readers Poll!
